Canada Research Chair in Community-Centered Building Science
New Tier 2 Chair · 2026–2031
The Canada Research Chair in Community-Centered Building Science supports research on how community and social housing performs in use, how indoor conditions affect residents, and how building-science tools can support healthier, more resilient homes. The programme brings together field measurements, low-cost monitoring and modelling with community knowledge.
Community and housing partners help shape the questions, decide what is measured and determine how findings are interpreted and shared. Current work is organized around accessible building diagnostics, housing and health under a changing climate, and community-led research and action.
Research programme
Accessible building diagnostics
Develop and test field diagnostics, sensor systems and modelling approaches that can work in housing with limited automation, technical support or consultant budgets.
Housing, health and climate
Study how housing conditions shape exposure and response to extreme heat, wildfire smoke, cold, moisture and other climate-related risks.
Community-led research and action
Work with community and housing partners to set priorities, interpret evidence and develop information that supports local decisions.
